Biggest Losers from Week 2/3 of Football

These teams/players lost big this past week of football. It’s been a rough week for…

  1. The Mountain West Conference

The Mountain West had 2 undefeated, possible New Year’s Day Bowl Game contenders going into this week. And now, on Monday, they have zero. Hawaii lost a rough game on the road against Army. After the first drive of the game, they got conservative decided to stop letting Cole McDonald do what he does best: throw the deep ball. And Boise State lost at 15th ranked Oklahoma State in a shootout 44-21. Brett Rypien looked great in the loss, throwing for 3 touchdowns and over 350 yards. But Boise State had no rushing attack, and that hurt them in Time of Possession.

2.   Nebraska

Scott Frost was supposed to change things. He, in very simple terms, has not. Nebraska lost at home to Colorado. This one is pretty straightforward.

3.   Everyone but Alabama

Alabama is incredibly dominant this year. They have scored 50+ points in all three wins this year. They beat a decent Louisville team in the season opener and this week, beat a solid Ole Miss team by 55 points. So basically, everyone who is not Alabama loses this week because Alabama looks like they will run away with the title.

4.  The Buffalo Bills

They are bad. They are really bad. This team is arguably worse than the Browns’ 0-16 season. And now LeSean McCoy has bruised ribs and may miss some time. Josh Allen hasn’t looked like the guy to save the franchise yet, and the defense is the worst in football.

5.  Cleveland Browns

Do they want to win a football game? Because every time they get close to winning, they blow it. Down 18-12, Taylor throws a long pass to Antonio Calloway for a touchdown to tie the game with 1:24 left in the game. Zane Gonzalez misses the extra point, his second of the game. Brees drives down and Lutz makes a field goal with less than 30 seconds left. Taylor and Landry connect to put the Browns back in field goal range. And Zane Gonzalez misses a field goal to force overtime. The Browns are just doing Browns things.

6.  Kickers

It was a rough week for kickers all around. Mason Crosby missed a game winner, Daniel Carlson missed two game winners and one other separate field goals. There was 7 missed extra points and 13 missed field goals. Pick it up Kickers.

NFL Game of the Week

Our NFL game of the week, this week, is Jacksonville vs New England. Now in the grand scheme of each team’s season, this game is not extremely important; however, it is each team’s first real test of the season. New England is going up against the best defense in the NFL. The Jacksonville defense just does not have a weakness. Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue, Marcel Dareus, Malik Jackson combine to form one of the deadliest pass rushes in NFL history. If that isn’t enough, the jaguars have Abry Jones, Taven Bryan, and Dante Fowler in the rotation to back up that deadly pass rush. IF the quarterback manages to find time to throw the ball Jalen Ramsey and Aj Bouye patrol the field like hawks with a taste for pigskin. They were rated the best cornerback duo in the NFL last season. Finally Tashaun Gipson and Barry Church serve as the last line of the defense although they are rarely needed. Both are veteran safeties who each provide a different skillset. Although they may not be all-pro selections like the rest of the defense, they are crucial role players. This incredible defense faces a weakened Tom Brady and Bill Belechick. Julian Edelman, Brady’s number one target, is suspended. Jeremy Hill, the starting running back, recently tore his ACL. Aside from Rob Gronkowski, Brady’s only options are three aging wide receivers, and a converted running back; however, I have a feeling that the best quarterback of all time will find a way to make that work. The jaguars offense is going to struggle with production against this veteran New England defense that only got better this summer. Blake Bortles is average at best and is surrounded by 3 receivers with no clear number one and a thin running back depth chart with Leonard Fournette out. This game will be used as a benchmark come postseason, and both teams have something to prove. Who will emerge victorious.

College Football Game of the Week

September 15th, 2018

It’s Saturday, you know what that means. It College Football time. Now to the average fan, our game of the week might not mean much. If you look anywhere else, they might say the game of the week is Auburn vs LSU or Boise State vs Oklahoma St (and that is a great game). But not here at HotSeatSports, our game of the week is Hawaii @ Army.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors have received some buzz due to a high scoring, exciting offense and a Heisman hopeful in Cole McDonald. McDonald, sophomore, has dominated in three games this year. He is 78 of 111 for 1165 yards and 13 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He also has 2 rushing touchdowns. His play has been amazing this year and Hawaii will go as far as he takes them.

The Army Black Knights are back doing what they do best: run the triple option efficiently. Fullback Darnell Woolfolf had two touchdowns against Liberty and could be a major factor in this game. But as with most triple option teams, the game will be decided by the quarterback. Kelvin Hopkins Jr will no doubt be a deciding factor in this game. He has 3 total touchdowns on the year, and will definitely have more after today.

This will be a high-scoring game with a lot of offense, and not that much defense. Cole McDonald will win the quarterback battle and carry Hawaii to the win. The fact that Army is favored by 7 is astounding. Even though the game is at Army and Hawaii had to fly a long way to get there, it doesn’t matter because Hawaii is the better team and will escape West Point with a win.
